Course description: 

This course introduces participants to the exciting world of game development, offering a solid foundation in the key concepts, tools, and methods used to create digital games. Students will learn the basics of game design, including storyboarding, character development, gameplay mechanics, and level design. The course will cover simple programming principles using beginner-friendly platforms such as Scratch, Unity (using visual scripting), or Godot. Participants will explore how to create 2D games, integrate graphics and sound, and test gameplay for a smooth user experience. Basic concepts of user interface design, player engagement, and feedback systems will also be introduced. Through hands-on projects, students will gain practical experience by developing simple playable games from concept to prototype. No prior coding or design experience is required, making this course ideal for beginners, educators, hobbyists, or anyone curious about the game development process. By the end of the course, participants will have an understanding of how games are created and the confidence to continue exploring more advanced tools and techniques.

The course includes an optional outdoor adventure day in Finnish nature with an expert guide for a small extra fee (40 EUR).
