Nordic Cafe Lingua for Youth project finishing in August 2025

4.8.2025

In August 2024 we started the Nordic Cafe Lingua for Youth (NCLY) project, granted by Nordic Culture Point and funded by Nordic Council of Ministers – and what a journey it has been! The project is now finishing in August 2025.

All partners – Learning for Integration ry from Finland (coordinator), B-Creative from Sweden and Step by Step Consulting from Iceland worked hard on the project with the aim of improving the knowledge of young people of 15-18-years of age regarding other Nordic languages and cultures. The project developed a series of workshops in the form of language cafes aimed at both young migrants and local youth in the project countries to learn their local language and the other Nordic languages of the project (Finnish, Swedish or Icelandic).

In addition to the focus on learning Nordic languages, the partners prepared cultural material teaching the youth about other Nordic cultures, their cultural features, heritage and history through different kinds of activities. The materials and workshops also dealt social issues such as gender equality and sexual minorities, environment and sustainable development, racism, diversity and multiculturality in Nordic countries.

LFI ry conducted most workshops in cooperation with schools in the capital area, where young Finnish as well as migrant students learned about Swedish and Icelandic languages and cultures. We received great feedback and many wished that the workshops would continue!
